This conversation must reach decision makers.

We encourage all supporters of The Castlereagh Statement to share their perspectives with their local representatives and invite them to contribute to this important national conversation about the future of education in the age of AI.

To make this as easy as possible, we have prepared a draft email and a spreadsheet containing the contact details of Commonwealth and State Members of Parliament. These resources can be found below.

Members of Parliament are often most responsive to correspondence that is relevant to their electorate and reflects personal experience.

We encourage you to write to the State/Territory and Federal Member representing the electorate in which you live and/or work. You may also wish to contact your state senators.

A sample letter is provided below as a starting point. You are welcome to use it as written or adapt it to reflect your own experiences, concerns and perspective.

Where possible, send individual emails to each representative, address them by name, and include your contact details.

SUBJECT: Seeking your perspective on the future of Australian education

Dear [MP Name],

I am writing to invite you to contribute your valuable perspective on The Castlereagh Statement, a cross-sector call to action on Australian education and training in the age of AI.

Educators, researchers, students and industry leaders from across Australia have come together to issue a bold call to action: our education system must evolve to prepare young people for an AI-transformed world. This is the central message of The Castlereagh Statement, released in April 2026 following a national summit hosted by the University of Sydney at its Castlereagh Street campus.

The Statement contends that, while Australian education aspires to develop confident, creative and capable lifelong learners, many of our systems were designed for a world in which the reproduction of knowledge was highly valued. In an era when artificial intelligence can increasingly generate information and complete cognitive tasks, educators are being challenged to reconsider which dispositions, capabilities and forms of knowledge students should develop now to equip them to flourish in life and work.

The Statement proposes three national goals:

A shared definition of what we value in human educators and learners, supported by aligned measurement systems.
Coherent, scaffolded learning pathways from early childhood through to lifelong learning, aligned with societal needs.
Every Australian being capable of engaging with AI confidently, critically and creatively.

Your perspective on these issues would be highly valued. The Castlereagh Statement has been deliberately positioned as a green paper, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback and help shape its future direction before it is revised and released as a white paper.
